Pickups in Ghana do real work — construction sites, agriculture, deliveries, and as crew vehicles for businesses operating outside the cities. The right pickup makes the work easier. The wrong one becomes a workshop fixture.
Toyota Hilux
The default. Unkillable. Parts everywhere. Best resale in Ghana of any pickup. Diesel variants are the workhorses; petrol 2.7L is fine for lighter work.
Toyota Tacoma
Imported from the US (Hilux is sold in different markets). More civilized than the Hilux, similar reliability, but parts can take longer to source. Best for businesses that also use the truck as a family vehicle.
Ford Ranger
The most modern and comfortable of the three. Capable off-road, strong towing, great cabin. Parts are improving in Ghana but still behind Toyota.
Which to buy
Pure work: Hilux diesel. Mixed business/family: Tacoma. Modern feel and you have a good Ford mechanic: Ranger.
